Spicy Mutton Curry (Roasted Coconut Mutton Curry)

INGREDIENTS

Mutton – 1 kg
Onion – 2
Tomatoes – 2
Green chillies – 3
Ginger, chopped – 1 tbsp
Garlic, chopped – 1 tbsp
Coriander seeds – 1½ tbsp
Dry red chilli – 5 – 6
Fenugreek seeds – ½ tsp
Cinnamon – 2 pieces
Cardamom – 6
Cloves – 8
Bay leaves – 2
Coconut – 1 cup
Black peppercorns – 10 – 12
Red chilli powder – 1 tsp
Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
Curry leaves
Salt as needed
Oil

INSTRUCTIONS

Grind garlic, chillies and ginger. Keep it aside.

Heat oil in a pan, roast coriander seeds, red chillies, cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, cumin seeds, fenugreek seeds, and bay leaves.

Add grated coconut and pepper.

When coconut turns brown in colour, switch off the stove.

Let it cool, then grind it to a smooth paste. Keep it aside.

Heat oil in a pan.

Add curry leaves and onion.

When it turns brown, add the ground paste of garlic, chillies and ginger.

Now add mutton and mix well.

Add turmeric powder, chilli powder, salt, and tomato. Cook till the oil separates.

Add water as required and pressure cook till 1-2 whistles.

Open the pressure cooker and put it back to the stove and reduce the water to a thick gravy.

Serve hot with pathiri, parotta, rice, chapati.

  1. Ohhhh!!! We are trying to take a break from mutton and here comes your delicious spiced up curry. The temptation is hard to resist but have to wait for a week or two.
