Idichakka thoran is a popular dish from Kerala, which is made up of tender jackfruit, grated coconut, and some spices.
Ingredients
Raw Jackfruit, peeled and cleaned – 4 cups
Grated coconut – 1 cup
Cumin seeds – 1/2 tsp
Green chillies – 3 nos
Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
Oil – 1 tbsp
Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
Dry red chillies – 3 Nos. (Cut into 2 pieces)
Curry leaves – 2 sprigs
Salt
Method
Pressure cook raw jackfruit with 1-1/2 cups water till one whistle or steam them in a steamer. Remove the water if any, once cooked and give a small whiz through the mixer or mash it.
Coarsely grind grated coconut, green chillies , turmeric powder and cumin seeds.
Heat oil in a pan, splutter mustard seeds, dry red chillies and curry leaves. Add ground paste and saute till the raw smell leaves. Now add cooked mashed jackfruit and salt. Lower the flame, close the lid, and cook for 2-3 minutes.
Tender jackfruit curry is ready.
Serve with fish curry or as it is.
