Chicken curry

This is one of the simple and easy chicken curry. Chicken cooked with potatoes in coconut milk. This curry goes well with appam , puttu, idiyappam , rice etc.


Chicken    – 1/2 kg

Ginger crushed -1 tsp
Garlic crushed   – 1tsp
Green chilli slit   – 4 nos
Salt as needed
Turmeric powder  – 1/4 tsp
Oil  as needed
Mustard seeds  – 1/2 tsp
Onion cut into length wise – 2 nos
Curry leaves
Chilli powder  – 2 tsp
Coriander powder   – 3 tsp
Fennel seed powder – 3/4 tsp
Potato’s cut in to cubes – 2 nos
Thin coconut milk  – 2 cup
Thick coconut milk  – 1 1/2 cup
Garam masala powder – 1 tsp


Cut chicken in to medium pieces . Cook chicken with crushed ginger , garlic, green chilli, turmeric powder and salt. Heat oil in a pan, splutter mustard seeds, add onion, curry leaves and saute well  .When onion gets transluscent,  add chilli powder,coriander powder and fennel powder(soak the powders in small amount of water) .When the masalas are sauteed well add potatoes and cook them. When potatoes are cooked add chicken and thin extract of coconut milk . When it starts to boil add garam masala and lower the flame. When the gravy starts to thicken, add thick coconut milk .When it is about to boil switch of the stove.
