Ingredients
1) Chickpeas/Vella kadala, boiled – 2 cups
2) Potatoes, boiled and mashed – 2 medium
3) Onion – 1 big
Green chillies chopped – 2 nos
Ginger chopped – 1/2 tsp
Garlic chopped – 1/2 tsp
Pepper powder – 1 tsp
Fennel powder – 1/2 tsp
Garam masala – 1 tsp
Turmeric powder – a pinch
Coriander leaves chopped – 2 tbsp
4) Salt to taste
5) Oil for shallow fry
6) All purpose flour/Maida – 3-4 tbsp
7) Biscuit crumbs
Soak chickpeas overnight. Cook them. Coarsely grind the chickpeas in the mixer. Heat oil in a pan, saute onion. When onion turns light pink in colour, add rest of # 3 ingredients one by one. Now add the coarsely ground chickpeas and salt and saute them. Add mashed potato and mix well. Switch off the stove. Allow it to cool. Make balls out of it and form it into patties. Dip this in a maida batter (combine maida and water to prepare a loose batter) and then into the biscuit crumbs. You can tawa fry the patties.
If you prefer, you can fry the patties without dipping in maida or biscuit crumbs. Cook the patties till you get a nice golden brown colour. Serve with tomato ketchup.
