Mackerel Fish Curry l Ayla Curry


Mackerel / Ayala – 12 pieces
Shallots, chopped – ½ cup
Grated coconut – ½ cup
Red chili powder – 3 tsp
Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
Coriander powder – 2 tsp
Raw mango, sliced – 1
Ginger – 1-inch piece
Garlic, crushed – 2 cloves
Curry leaves
Coconut oil – as required
Salt to taste


Grind grated coconut, chili powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder with little amounts of water to a smooth consistency. Keep the ground paste aside.

Heat coconut oil in a pan. Add shallots, garlic, and ginger. Fry till golden brown. Add ground coconut paste. Stir fry for a minute on a low flame. Add required water along with fish and salt. When it comes to a boil, add mango pieces. Cover the pan using a lid. Let it cook till the fish is fully cooked. Add curry leaves. Remove from fire.
