Ingredients
Snake gourd / Padavalanga chopped – 1 no
Dry prawns/ Unakkachammen – 1/2 to 1 cup
Grated coconut – 1 cup
Shallots chopped – 2 tbsp
Green chillies chopped – 4 nos
Cumin seeds – 2 pinches
Red chilli powder – 1/4tsp
Turmeric powder – 1/4tsp
mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp
Curry leaves
Salt
Coconut oil
Mix together snake gourd, dried prawns, grated coconut. red chilli powder, turmeric powder, cumin seeds and salt using your hand . Keep aside.
Heat oil in a pan, splutter mustard seeds. Add pearl onions and curry leaves and saute till they turn golden brown. Add the snake gourd and prawns mixture kept aside and saute well for a minute. Sprinkle some water and close the lid . Cook on a low flame for 5-8 minutes. Remove the lid and check whether the water has dried out. Turn off the stove when the snake gourd unakkachemeen thoran is done. Serve hot with rice.
