Kanava Thoran / Squid Thoran


Squid / kanava – 1/2 kg
Pearl onions/shallots   – 1/2 cup
Green chilli, chopped – 8
Ginger, chopped – a small piece
Garlic, chopped   – 1 tsp
Curry leaves     – 2 sprigs
Coconut oil      – 4 tbsp
Grated coconut – 1 – 11/2 cups
Mustard seeds   – 1/2 tsp
Peppercorn crushed  – 2 tsp
Fenugreek seeds – 1 pinch
Fennel seeds, crushed – 1/4 tsp
Garam masala powder – 1/2 tsp
Turmeric powder       – 1/4 tsp
Salt to taste


Pressure cook squid along with turmeric powder and salt till one whistle. Squid will turn rubbery if overcooked.

Heat coconut oil in a pan. Crackle mustard seeds. Add shallots, green chillies, ginger.

Once it is sauteed, add curry leaves and grated coconut.

When coconut is slightly cooked, add crushed peppercorns, fenugreek seeds and fennel seeds. Mix well.
Now add cooked squid to this.

Mix well so that flavors blend together. Squid thoran is ready to be served.

    So glad finally you have changed from the other template .Kanava in pressure cooker,I have never done that sounds really easy.
