Squid thoran/ kanava thoran


Squid /kanava – 1/2 kg
Pearl onions/shallots   – 1/2 cup
Green chilli chopped – 8 nos
Ginger chopped – a small piece
Garlic chopped   – 1 tsp
Curry leaves     – 2 sprigs
Coconut oil      – 4 tbsp
Grated coconut – 1 – 11/2 cup
Mustard seeds   – 1/2 tsp
Peppercorn crushed  – 2 tsp
Fenugreek seeds – 1 pinch
Fennel seeds crushed – 1/4 tsp
Garam masala powder – 1/2 tsp
Turmeric powder       – 1/4 tsp
Salt to taste

Pressure cook squid along with turmeric powder and salt till one whistle. Squid will turn rubbery if overcooked.

Heat coconut oil in a pan. Crackle mustard seeds. Add shallots, green chillies, ginger. Once it is sauteed, add curry leaves. Now add grated coconut. Once coconut is slightly sauteed, add slightly crushed peppercorns, fenugreek seeds and fennel seeds. Mix well. Now add cooked squid to this. When everything is blended and cooked, squid thoran is ready to be served.   Squid thoran goes well with rice and chapathi.

    So glad finally you have changed from the other template .Kanava in pressure cooker,I have never done that sounds really easy.
