Vermicelli Upma


Semiya / vermicelli – 1 cup

Onion, chopped – 1 medium

Green chilli – 1

Ginger, chopped – ½ tsp

Dried red chilli – 2

Mustard seeds – 1 tsp

Urad dal – 1 tsp

Chana dal – 1 tsp

Carrot, chopped – 1 (small)

Curry leaves – few

Salt – as needed



In a pan, add 1 tsp oil. Roast vermicelli to light golden brown color. Set this aside.

In a pan, add 2 tsp of oil. Crackle mustard seeds. Add urad dal, chana dal, and curry leaves. Add onion, green chilli, dry red chilli. Fry till onion turns translucent. Now add carrot and saute for a while. Add 2 cups of water and salt. Cover the pan with a lid.

When water comes to a boil, add roasted vermicelli. Cook for a few minutes till water is absorbed. Switch off the flame.

Serve hot with sugar or curry of your choice.
